League Rules

 
 

General Rules

  • All play begins with a coin toss.

  • Teams will play three-on-three, half court basketball.

  • Third and Fourth will be co-ed competition.

  • Fifth and Sixth grade will have grades combined, split into boys and girls teams.

  • Man t0 man defense only. No double teams or traps. Players can “help” or switch when player breaks free or pick is set.

  • Three point play is in effect for all grades.

  • Offensive play begins at the top of the key (imaginary line). Change of possession begins at the top of the key with a “check of the ball”. Change of possession will be defined as change of ball control, including rebounds or steals. At this time no “check” is required.

  • When beginning play at the top of the key (after check) the defender(s) cannot cross the imaginary line (at the top of the key) until the ball is either put on the floor or passed.

  • The three second violation is NOT in effect.

  • Out of bounds play require:

    • Inbound from the point that the ball went out of bounds

    • Defending team must remain in man to man defense.

    • Defense must give three feet to inbound passer.

    • Must inbound within five seconds.

  • Time-outs

    • Two, thirty second time-outs per half (no carry over).

    • Official will call time-outs for injury or as needed.

  • Referees have the option to explain rules of the game and correct play as the game proceeds without penalty.

  • Substitutions are to be at stoppage of play with all players obtaining equal playing time. Subs must report to scorers table.

  • Time clock is continuous until the last minute of each half, at which point it will be stopped on all calls. Each game will consist of two, twenty minute halves and a five minute half time break.

    Fouls:

    • Any non-shooting foul results in the fouled team retaining possession at the nearest side or baseline.

    • on the 7th team foul, the opponent shoots 1-1.

      Third Grade:

    • At this age no player fouls out of the game.

    • (Penalty foul rule) All players are allowed 5 personal fouls per game, after the 5th personal foul, the opponent shoots 2 shots.

    • At this age the free throws are shot from the short line (3 ft closer)

      Fourth/Fifth/Sixth Grades:

    • All players are allowed 5 personal fouls per game and will foul out on the 5th foul.

      Technical Fouls:

    • Unsportsmanlike conduct as deemed by the official or any use of foul language on the part of any coach or player will result in a technical foul. The opponent will receive 2 free throws by any player on the floor and possession of the ball.

    • Technical fouls on players also count as personal fouls.

    • Any player or coach receiving 2 technical fouls will be ejected from the game.

      Foul shots:

    • Players waiting to rebound on the lane lines cannot cross the line until the ball hits the backboard or rim.

      Three player rule:

    • In the event that a team has only 3 players available and a player fouls out, please refer to the (Penalty Foul Rule) as they apply to the third grade league, as you must have 3 players to continue a game.
